The first cycle of harvest yielded 75 kg. Much attention was paid to ventilation, humidity and cleanliness of the growing room to prevent any bacteria. The first harvest was of good quality and provides a good basis for expanding the activities.

For the cultivation of oyster mushrooms we have set up a dark room and grow room.

After the mushroom training we could start the first growing cycle of oyster mushrooms in March. We use the fermentation method where the substrate is put on a clean surface, lime is added and the process of the steaming is on the fourth day.

To gain more practical knowledge of mushroom farming, I decided to attend a training in mushroom farming through an organization known as Mushroom Training and Resource Centre (MTRC) in Kabale, Uganda which took place in February 2025.

The start-up capital for the company came from Skills and Business for Africa. They financed the initial costs.

For the financial planning an investment plan and a production plan have been drawn up. The business will start on a small scale and the planned income in the first year is UGX 2,000,000 (€ 500). During the start-up phase UGX 2,273,500 (€ 565) is needed.

For the start of a mushroom farm it is important that with a relatively small investment good cultivation space for oyster mushrooms can be set up.
